Midjourney, one of the leading AI image generation platforms, has announced the launch of its new model, V7 — the first major update in over a year.
This release comes amid increasing competition in the AI space, especially following the recent buzz around OpenAI’s new image generator.
According to David Holz, CEO of Midjourney, V7 is built on an entirely new architecture designed to enhance image accuracy and coherence between visual elements.
The model also features a deeper understanding of text prompts, allowing for higher-quality image generation — particularly when it comes to intricate details like hands, body proportions, and visual texture.

What’s New? Key Features of Midjourney V7
One of the most notable features in V7 is its default personalization system, which asks users to rate around 200 images to build a visual profile that reflects their individual preferences.
This step is meant to tailor the model’s output to each user, ensuring that the generated images align more closely with your personal aesthetic.
Midjourney V7 also introduces two main rendering modes:
Turbo Mode: Offers faster rendering at a higher cost.
Relax Mode: Slower but more affordable, ideal for users who don’t require immediate results.
In addition, a new feature called “Draft Mode” has been introduced.
This option allows users to generate images ten times faster and at half the cost, with the ability to enhance quality later if needed.
This is demonstrated in the following clip, shared by the company on its official X account:
Challenges
Despite the significant improvements, V7 currently lacks some essential features such as advanced image upscaling and texture reformation — both expected to arrive in the coming months.
The Midjourney team also noted that this version may require new approaches to prompt writing in order to get the best results.
On another note, the company continues to face legal challenges related to the use of web-sourced images in training its models without prior permission — an issue that could impact the future development of AI technologies in this field.
How to Access: Is Midjourney V7 Free?
If you're a new user, you can create an account through the platform’s official website (midjourney.com).
Please note that Midjourney V7 is a paid service and does not offer free access.
To use its features, you need to subscribe to one of the available plans starting at $10 per month (or $8 per month if billed annually).
Once you've completed the required profile customization step for the new model, you'll be able to access and use it—either through the Discord app or directly via the website mentioned above.
