Pinterest Overhauls Boards with AI for a Hyper-Personalized Shopping Experience
In a strategic move to deepen user engagement, Pinterest has announced a suite of major upgrades to its Boards, powered by artificial intelligence.
The initiative aims to transform the platform’s signature feature from a simple organizational tool into a dynamic, personalized space for discovering, styling, and shopping for ideas.
A key highlight of the update is “Styled for you,” an innovative tool that creates virtual collages from a user’s saved fashion Pins. This feature allows users to mix and match different clothing items and accessories to generate fresh outfits tailored to their personal style.
According to the company, users can select an item within the collage and then swipe through AI-driven recommendations for complementary pieces.
In a similar vein, the platform is testing “Boards made for you,” which are custom-curated boards that blend editorial expertise with AI-powered suggestions.
Pinterest stated that these personalized boards, featuring trending looks and weekly outfit inspiration, will be delivered directly to users’ home feeds and inboxes.
This initiative is part of Pinterest’s broader vision to position itself as an “AI-enabled shopping assistant,” a goal previously highlighted by its CEO. Vicky Gkiza, VP of Product Management, affirmed this direction, stating, “Today’s updates make boards into a personal shopping assistant… to help users move from admiring their dream styles or spaces to actively achieving them.”
However, as Pinterest leans more heavily into AI, it is also taking parallel steps to ensure content transparency.
The company has announced plans to label AI-generated and AI-edited images and is providing users with controls to reduce the appearance of such content in their feeds.
The new AI features will initially roll out to users in the United States and Canada, with a wider global release of additional organizational updates expected in the coming months.
These updates will include new tabs within boards, such as “More Ideas” for related suggestions and “All Saves” for easy access to all saved Pins.
