Instagram has announced a significant step forward in creative content, integrating generative AI-powered editing tools directly into its Stories interface.

The update allows users to modify photos and videos using simple text prompts, making advanced editing capabilities more accessible than ever before.

According to the official announcement, these new features are available through a “Restyle” menu located at the top of the Stories editor.

From this menu, users can describe a desired change in writing, whether it’s adding a new element, removing an unwanted object, or completely altering the background.

For example, a user could simply type “add a crown to my head,” “change my hair color,” or “insert a sunset background” to see their image transform instantly.

In a key strategic move, this functionality is no longer confined to conversations with the Meta AI assistant but is now fully embedded in the daily user workflow for Stories.

The platform stated that this update aims to unlock broader creative possibilities, requiring no prior technical experience for users to bring their visions to life.

To encourage interactive and viral content, the platform has also introduced a new “Add Yours” sticker.

This feature allows friends to easily apply the same text prompt used in a Story to their own photos, creating a simple way to start creative trends among followers.

Beyond custom prompts, the new toolset includes a selection of preset effects that can change the entire mood of an image with a single tap, such as applying a watercolor filter or adding a virtual biker jacket to an outfit.

The capabilities extend to short videos as well, enabling users to add dynamic visual effects like falling snow or flames.

It is important to note that using these features requires accepting Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which states that the company may analyze media content, including facial features, to summarize, modify, and generate new content.

This development is part of Meta’s wider strategy to embed AI across its applications to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving market.
