In a new move to enhance the capabilities of its intelligent assistant, Google has unveiled "Scheduled Actions" for the Gemini app.
The new feature aims to bring a more personalized and proactive approach to the user's experience with artificial intelligence.
According to Google, Scheduled Actions gives users the ability to organize their routine tasks and receive customized updates directly from Gemini.
Now, individuals can instruct Gemini to perform a specific task at a set time or turn frequently used text prompts into recurring actions.
The company provides a dedicated page within the app's settings for managing these scheduled actions at any time.
With this addition, users can start their day with a summary of their schedule and unread emails, or get a creative boost by requesting blog post ideas every Monday, for instance.
It's also possible to stay updated on favorite sports teams or even schedule a one-time task, like asking for a summary of an awards show the day after it happens.
All it takes is telling Gemini the request and its timing, and it will handle the rest, the company stated.
The new feature is currently available to Gemini app users subscribed to the Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra plans, as well as eligible Google Workspace for Business and Education plans.
This development comes as Google strives to make Gemini a more effective tool capable of performing tasks similar to a real personal assistant.
The "Scheduled Actions" feature is somewhat comparable to functionalities available to OpenAI's ChatGPT subscribers, where the latter offers the ability to send reminders or execute recurring actions.
Dave Citron, Senior Director of Product Management for the Gemini app, explained that the goal is to make the application "more personal, proactive, and powerful."
Suggested use cases include daily summaries of calendars and to-do lists, and weather updates with outfit suggestions based on a user-defined wardrobe.
Other possibilities involve receiving weekly news summaries, getting updates on an artist's upcoming events, or even exploring new cafes and restaurants over the weekend.
