In a new move aimed at enhancing user experience with complex content, Google unveiled significant developments for its NotebookLM tool during the Google I/O 2025 conference. Spearheading these advancements is a new feature named "Video Overviews."
This particular feature marks a substantial leap in how information is presented, especially for individuals who prefer visual learning over merely reading or listening.
We had previously touched upon our expectations for the launch of Video Overviews during this event, based on certain observed indicators.
From Text to Video: NotebookLM Opens a New Door to Visual Understanding
The new tool grants users the ability to transform their notes and educational resources into engaging instructional videos.
These clips incorporate graphics, images, and timelines, all displayed attractively to facilitate comprehension of concepts and reinforce information.

During the initial demonstration revealed by Google, short clips with high visual fidelity were shown.
Within them, one could see prominent headings and clearly displayed important terms, accompanied by a natural human-sounding voiceover, distinctly different from the typical robotic voices found in other AI tools.
Google clarifies that the clips shown in the demo were condensed, whereas the full versions will include more extensive details to offer a comprehensive learning experience.
NotebookLM Goes Mobile: An Equally Efficient Portable Experience
Just one day before its annual conference commenced, Google announced the launch of the NotebookLM application for Android and iOS.
Having been available only on the web since its 2023 launch, users can now utilize the tool on the go.
What Does the New App Offer?
You can download and use the application for free, enjoying several benefits.
1. Educational audio files (Audio Overviews): These can be listened to offline and operate in the background while performing other tasks.
2. Creating new notebooks or browsing existing ones is possible through a simple interface that automatically supports light and dark modes.
3. Adding new sources is straightforward: Any web page, PDF file, or YouTube video can be shared directly to NotebookLM with a single tap.

4. Interaction with audio summaries is supported: You can ask questions while listening to guide the dialogue and achieve deeper understanding.
Audio Overviews Updates
Alongside videos, the Audio Overviews feature received an update.
This enhancement allows users to adjust the length of the audio clip as desired, whether they are looking for a quick summary or a more detailed, longer presentation.
Consequently, you can leverage it for various purposes, such as studying or quickly preparing for any topic.
In this context, Google has indicated that the primary goal is to empower anyone to understand any piece of information, at any time, from anywhere.
Although educational AI tools are not new, NotebookLM appears to be fundamentally different.
Its comfortable visual design, natural interaction with audio and video, along with content customization capabilities, make it more than just an automatic summarizer.
While Google has not specified an exact launch date for the new video feature, the current beta version suggests the date is approaching, with promises of future additions to support more source types.
