Character AI Unveils New Video and Animation Design Tools

Character.AI, renowned for its interactive chat experiences with AI-powered characters, has unveiled a new suite of features designed to expand the user experience into broader multimedia dimensions.

This move comes in response to requests from the platform's creator community, aiming to provide richer tools for crafting immersive stories and experiences.

In an official blog post dated June 2, 2025, the company announced that these additions transcend the boundaries of traditional text conversations.

AvatarFX: Transforming Still Images into Videos

Among the most prominent new features is AvatarFX, a tool that converts static images into animated video clips, which was first announced last April.

Users can now easily make their avatars, or any other image, talk, sing, and interact.

The company noted that creators can leverage this tool to produce introductory videos for their characters and build dynamic content to attract new followers.

This tool is currently available on the web and will soon arrive on mobile apps, allowing users to create up to five free videos per day.

AvatarFX relies on advanced video generation technologies from images and can handle multiple speakers in a single video, maintaining good consistency in facial, hand, and body movements.

What's New in Character.AI

The new additions also include "Scenes," an interactive storytelling experience. Through Scenes, users can enter pre-designed events and stories with their favorite characters.

Character.AI indicated that it will later this summer provide creators with tools to build and publish their own Scenes, which will enrich the platform's vast world. "Scenes" is currently available via the mobile app.

The platform also announced "Streams," an interactive live broadcasting feature that puts users in the director's chair.

Through Streams, users can create dynamic moments between any two characters by selecting a topic and then initiating the stream.

The company stated that characters themselves are soon expected to start sharing their own content, adding a new depth and dimension to their worlds beyond chat interactions.

This feature will be available this week on both the web and mobile apps.

The updates also addressed the importance of individual profiles by introducing "Profile Redesign."

This update empowers creators to transform their profiles into a powerful showcase that highlights their characters and content better than ever before, with smarter organization and deeper customization options. This update is now available in the mobile app.

The new features also include "Imagine Animated Chats," which allows users to convert their most interesting interactions with characters into animations.

Users can easily share these animations on the "Character.AI feed" or external platforms, aiming to increase the visibility of high-quality characters created by the community.

It's worth noting that creating these animations is currently available to c.ai+ subscribers via the mobile app.

Finally, the platform is preparing to launch "Community Feed," a dynamic, scrollable content feed. This feed connects users to all the new features mentioned, including the latest characters, Scenes, interactive Streams, and creator content.

It will serve as the front-end for the most exciting content on the platform and is set to arrive soon for the mobile app.

Tools and Technologies for Enhanced Safety

In a related context, press reports, such as those from TechCrunch, have addressed the platform's history regarding safety challenges and potential misuse, particularly concerning past lawsuits faced by the company regarding undesirable interactions between users, minors, and generated characters.

Character.AI acknowledged these potential challenges as it expands its multimedia offerings.

In response, the company affirmed in its blog post that it aims to "provide an engaging space that fosters creativity while maintaining a safe environment for everyone."

The company explained that it implements safety measures, including blocking tools to prevent content creation using images of minors or public figures.

Furthermore, AI-based image modification techniques have been adopted to prevent the recognition of real individuals, alongside the placement of visible watermarks on produced videos.
