Elon Musk's company, xAI, has announced a new update for its smart assistant, "Grok", which now allows it to use the camera to perceive the user's surrounding world.
This feature is named "Grok Vision". It enables users to ask questions about what appears before the phone's camera, whether it's a product, a sign, or even a document. This brings Grok closer to the visual intelligence capabilities found in tools like Gemini and ChatGPT.
Reports had recently revealed the upcoming announcement of these updates, alongside the upcoming launch of its next model, Grok 3.5.
This feature is currently available to users of the Grok app on iOS devices. It is not yet available on Android devices.
Despite that, Android users receive other updates in "Voice Mode". These include real-time search and multi-language speaking. However, this requires subscribing to the monthly "SuperGrok" plan which costs $30.
Introducing Grok Vision, multilingual audio, and realtime search in Voice Mode. Available now.

xAI continues to enhance Grok's capabilities rapidly. The assistant recently gained a "Memory" feature, granting it the ability to remember information from previous conversations.
Furthermore, an interactive tool similar to a canvas was added to facilitate creating documents and applications.
In this context, Grok appears to be advancing steadily in the interactive AI race. It is benefiting from the continuous support of the xAI team, and is making a serious attempt to compete with powerful tools like Gemini Live.
Although some features are limited to the iOS platform, the expansion plan indicates more updates coming in the near future. This could strengthen Grok's position in the smart assistant market.
